HB509 Headed to the Governor
Late Tuesday June 12th, the Ohio Senate passed HB509, the local government mid term budget bill that included the establishment of the Statewide Emergency Services Internet Protocol Network Steering Committee. This committee will work between now and November to produce recommendations for the legislature on the technology, governance and funding for Next Generation 9-1-1 in Ohio. The bill is expected to be signed by Governor Kasich early next week.
Within 10 days of the Governor’s signature, the committee appointments must be made. Within 30 days, they must have their first organizational meeting. They must then have their report to the legislature by no later than November 15th. This short time frame means that APCO & NENA must show strong support to the committee and aid them in developing the plan for NextGen9-1-1. This is what we asked for, now we must be willing to do the heavy lifting.
Stay tuned to OhioAPCO.org for updates on the member appointments and meeting dates/times.
